Answers to the most common questions about HIPPie.
Getting Started
- What does HIPPie actually do?
- HIPPie lets creators make an original record when they capture a photo or video in the app. Later, viewers can check one question: does this copy match the creator's original record?
- What do the five results mean?
- Original confirmed — this copy matches a HIPPie original record and every badge condition was met. Proof found · no badge — a matching record exists, but it was not captured with the in-app camera. No HIPPie record — we have no matching record; that is not proof of forgery. Differs from the original — a record exists, but this copy no longer matches it. Couldn't check — the comparison itself could not run; this is never reported as "no record".
- Does "No HIPPie record" mean "fake"?
- No. No HIPPie record simply means HIPPie could not find a matching original record. It does not claim the content is fake or unlawful.
Using HIPPie
- Can I register photos I didn't take with the HIPPie camera?
- No. Badge-eligible original records come from the HIPPie camera, because the record is made at capture time. You can still share gallery content, but it does not count toward the badge.
- Can I check proof without installing the app?
- Yes. The easiest path is to open the HIPPie link shared by the creator. If you do not have a link, paste a record code from the HIPPie app.
- Is HIPPie really free?
- Core registration and checking are free. Optional export features may have a per-export price shown in the app before purchase. Nothing else is gated behind a subscription.
- Does HIPPie work offline?
- You can capture photos offline — they are queued and registered automatically once the device is back online. Verification requires an internet connection.
Privacy & Data
- Do I need to upload a photo on the website?
- No. The public website is for HIPPie links and record codes. You should not need to move an image from Vault to the web.
- How do I delete my data?
- In the app: Profile -> Settings -> My Data -> Delete account. For a single record, open it in Registrations and choose Delete. You can also email us.
Troubleshooting
- Why does a photo taken with another camera app show "No HIPPie record"?
- Because HIPPie has no original record for it. HIPPie cannot retroactively know a photo is genuine — originality must be established at the moment of capture.
- What if someone else registers my photo first?
- For disputes, keep the HIPPie app record, your original files, and any publication history. HIPPie records are meant to support creator claims, not replace legal ownership decisions.
- My photo is blurry or unreadable after registration. Why?
- If a photo looks wrong on disk, re-open it in the app to confirm. iOS and Android galleries sometimes cache outdated thumbnails.
